JOB: Senior IP Engineer

Summary of job profile

The purpose of the role is to maintain the core IP Backbone Network ensuring that it is up and running
as well as ensuring that customers are constantly connected.
Key responsibilities will include;-
 The maintenance of Core IP Backbone Network (IP/MPLS) and the Enterprise Network
(Enterprise Edge and Aggregation)
 Ensure that Service Level Agreements are met for all Services
 Ensure system and service availability of the network on 24/7 basis
 Manage network fault and 2nd level escalations
 Ensure optimum performance of the network at all times with KPIs met
 Ascertain that Acceptance tests are efficiently carried out and handover circuits to operations
and business partners

Persons profile:

 Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical/Computer
Engineering or other relevant discipline
 Must have CCNP/CCIP Certification
 Minimum of 3years experience in direct Network Engineering/Network Support in a
Service Provider environment
 An in depth understanding of QoS Diffserv, CoS, Traffic Shaping and Traffic QoS Policy
Implementation is required
 Understanding of ISP Core Network Architecture
 Excellent practical experience of network security including Firewall and VPN
 Hands on experience in IP Service Level Agreement deployment in CISCO environment
will be an added advantage
 Good knowledge of MPLS (LDP and RSVP-TE) and QoS is required
 Knowledge of network management and monitoring tools (e.g. Orion Net Solar-Winds,
HP Open-View NMS, Cisco LMS/ISC, Ethereal, Cacti)
 High level understanding of multi-services platforms, routing protocols
ISIS/RIP/RSVP/OSPF/BGP/iBGP/ and troubleshooting down to packet level

Summary of job profile
To install and maintain telecommunication systems as well as provide network support to the
organization’s WAN clients in order to meet and maintain set service level objectives.
 
Key responsibilities will include;-

 Wimax Network Optimization: Analyze and optimize Wimax systems in 3.3GHz and 5.3GHz
spectrum using specific RF Optimization tools. Execute RF designs for specific markets including
capacity and frequency planning and propose optimization techniques through field work and
statistical analysis
 Carryout Analysis & Mapping, Interference analysis, Engineering Design, Coverage mapping, Link
budget calculations, Profiles calculation for LOS, link capacity dimensioning, routing design and
proposal preparation.
 Perform Microwave Links RF calculations and design
 Installation of VSAT and Wireless communications terminals
 Conduct site surveys and generate implementation reports.
 Design connectivity solutions including link budgeting, link capacity dimensioning, routing design
and proposal preparation.
 Carry out periodic & corrective maintenance of VSAT terminals and other telecommunications
equipment.
 Online, on phone and on site troubleshoots
 On site corrective and preventive maintenance
 Preparation of maintenance and troubleshooting reports.
 Prepare budgets for various pertinent projects including installations and maintenance trips.
 Provide Technical support to iWayAfrica broadband & Wireless clients.
 
Persons profile:

 Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or
any other relevant discipline.
 Minimum 3 years practical experience in design, deployment and maintenance of VSAT based
WAN, LAN’s, Terrestrial Wireless and Wired Networks and Cisco based routing
 Specific experience in using commercial RF network planning tools for Wireless Broadband
 Working knowledge of IEEE 802.X standards
 An understanding of RF propagation models and their application for Wireless Broadband
 Knowledge with RF measurement equipment (spectrum analyzer, power meter, etc.)
 Able to understand the workings of telecommunication technologies
 Good knowledge of engineering mathematics and calculus.
 Good organizational skills
 Ability to read and interpret complex technical manuals
 Project planning and implementation skills
 Ability to discuss and present information in a clear and concise manner
 Ability to exercise judgment to solve technical problems where the answer is not apparent
 Organized with natural forward planner abilities
 Must be able to work independently with little supervision.
