Job Objective
Provide leadership and direction to the Corporation business systems development team through identification of internal and external customer’s objectives and challenges, designing solutions that optimize productivity.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibility of the Manager is as follows:-
  • Plan, manage and direct development, implementations, maintenance and support of business information systems in the Corporation.
  • Perform application systems evaluation and selection, UAT and quality assurance for both new and existing applications.
  • Manage large software/ERP implementation and maintenance projects.
  • Perform business process re-engineering to achieve efficiencies and cost effectiveness of both automated and manual procedures.
  • Formulate, recommend and manage continuous improvement procedures for business processes.
  • Review and develop ICT governance best practice policies.
  • Formulate and manage sectional budget
  • Provide guidance and leadership to staff in the section.
  • Champion ICT based innovations that will translate to business opportunities.
  • Assist other departments with conducting business researches.
  • Perform any other duty as may be directed by the controlling officer.
Qualifications
The qualifications and experience of the manager is as follows:-
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Information and Communication Technology/Computer Science or equivalent from a recognized University.
  • Diploma in ICT based studies or related field.
  • Professional ICT qualification
  • A Masters degree will be an added advantage.
  • Must demonstrate strong leadership skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to create and manage excellent working teams.
  • Developed analytical and modeling skills, strong commercial awareness, demonstrated experience in management reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Must have 7 years hands on experience in management of software development teams.
  • Must have accomplished a full ERP implementation cycle.
  • Should have knowledge of RDBMS (MS-SQL and ORACLE 10g databases), multi-lingual programming skills (Java C++, NET, Delphi and Web Development tools).
  • Understand ISO8583 switching protocol and PCIDSS.
  • Should have experience with software conversions specifically from legacy to network client/server environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Team player and with strong leadership.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Summary of job profile
To install and maintain telecommunication systems as well as provide network support to the
organization’s WAN clients in order to meet and maintain set service level objectives.
 
Key responsibilities will include;-

 Wimax Network Optimization: Analyze and optimize Wimax systems in 3.3GHz and 5.3GHz
spectrum using specific RF Optimization tools. Execute RF designs for specific markets including
capacity and frequency planning and propose optimization techniques through field work and
statistical analysis
 Carryout Analysis & Mapping, Interference analysis, Engineering Design, Coverage mapping, Link
budget calculations, Profiles calculation for LOS, link capacity dimensioning, routing design and
proposal preparation.
 Perform Microwave Links RF calculations and design
 Installation of VSAT and Wireless communications terminals
 Conduct site surveys and generate implementation reports.
 Design connectivity solutions including link budgeting, link capacity dimensioning, routing design
and proposal preparation.
 Carry out periodic & corrective maintenance of VSAT terminals and other telecommunications
equipment.
 Online, on phone and on site troubleshoots
 On site corrective and preventive maintenance
 Preparation of maintenance and troubleshooting reports.
 Prepare budgets for various pertinent projects including installations and maintenance trips.
 Provide Technical support to iWayAfrica broadband & Wireless clients.
 
Persons profile:

 Bachelor’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or
any other relevant discipline.
 Minimum 3 years practical experience in design, deployment and maintenance of VSAT based
WAN, LAN’s, Terrestrial Wireless and Wired Networks and Cisco based routing
 Specific experience in using commercial RF network planning tools for Wireless Broadband
 Working knowledge of IEEE 802.X standards
 An understanding of RF propagation models and their application for Wireless Broadband
 Knowledge with RF measurement equipment (spectrum analyzer, power meter, etc.)
 Able to understand the workings of telecommunication technologies
 Good knowledge of engineering mathematics and calculus.
 Good organizational skills
 Ability to read and interpret complex technical manuals
 Project planning and implementation skills
 Ability to discuss and present information in a clear and concise manner
 Ability to exercise judgment to solve technical problems where the answer is not apparent
 Organized with natural forward planner abilities
 Must be able to work independently with little supervision.

About this position
As a key member of IT infrastructure department, this position is responsible for all aspects of network and Systems administration including servers, desktop systems, communications hardware, and software. As a network administrator, you will be responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of server systems/applications, computer networks and telecommunication equipment, to ensure network performance meets the organization and user requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning, Deploying and rebuilding Microsoft and Linux servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with Bridge International Academies standards and operational procedures.
  • Planning, Deploying and rebuilding Servers applications like Microsoft AD Directory Services, DHCP,  DNS, File services, IIS, Apache, Print and Document Services, SharePoint, WSUS, SQL Server, Hyper V, SNMP, SMTP, SSL, Failover Clustering and Remote Desktop services.
  • Installing, administering and maintaining Bridge International Academies Checkpoint firewall, Cisco Routers, IP PBX, Switches, Access Points, Security Cameras, Biometric systems and other active network devices.
  • Implementing and administering network access policies through LAN, WAN, VPN terminals, and other Remote Access Protocols with the aim of ensuring availability and secure connections.
  • Researching and recommending innovative and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks.  Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Carry out scheduled and continuous system monitoring to ensure integrity and availability of all network hardware, resources, systems and processes. Reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups, WSUS Updates, Firmware upgrades etc.
  • Create, update, and delete systems user accounts as per requests.
  • Monitor and perform periodic network performance reports to support capacity planning.
  • Evaluate and recommend LAN/WAN hardware, Software and peripheral equipment during procurement.
  • Liaising with internet service providers with the intention of ensuring continuous and reliable internet connections – expected internet availability per link per year should be 99.9%
  • Designing and updating network infrastructure documentation – security, configurations, tests, patches, etc.
  • Capacity building of IT Support officers, to better tackle routine calls.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
 
About You
  • Do you hold at least a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology or related field?
  • Are you either or both MCITP, CCNA, ITIL certified?
  • Do you possess over five years IT experience of which at least three years have been spent actively administrating windows, Linux, Cisco, Checkpoint, and WIFI networks?

The KDF is pleased to announce to the general public that there will be a recruitment of General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets and Specialist Officers.
Prospective candidates wishing to apply must possess the following relevant requirements.

1. Requirements

a. Must be Kenyan citizens.

b. Age: Between 18 and 26 years old for GSO Cadets and upto 29 years for Specialist Officers.

c. Be physically and medically fit in accordance with the KDF standards.

d. Have no criminal record.

e. Minimum Height: 5 ft 3 in. (5’3”).

f. Minimum Weight:

(1) Men - 54.55 Kg (120 lb)
(
2) Women - 50.00 Kg (110 lb).

g. Women candidates must NOT be pregnant at recruitment and during training.

h. Education:

(1) General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets

A minimum of mean grade B (Plain) in KCSE upto degree level with minimum subject grade of C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and in any one of the Pure Sciences (Physics, Chemistry or Biology).Those aspiring to join KDF as GSO Cadets should note that the initial training period will cover three continuous years leading to a BSC in Military Science on successful completion.

(2) Specialist Officers

A minimum of mean grade C+ (Plus) in KCSE and an undergraduate degree from a recognised University/Institution.
Must be registered with the relevant statutory body, where applicable.

(a) Experience: Minimum of two (2) years’ working experience for Specialist Officers.

(1) Medical Officers: Must have a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBCh.B) degree and be registered with the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (MPDB).

(2) Veterinary Officers: Must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine degree and be registered with the Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB).

(3) Telecommunication Engineers: Must have a BSc. in Telecommunication Engineering degree.

(4) Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers: Must have a BSc. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering be registered with the Engineers Registration Board (ERB).

(5) Telecommunication and Information Engineers: Must have a BSc. in Telecommunication and Information
Engineering Degree.

(6) Software Developers/Computer Technologists: Must have a BSc. in Computer Science or BSc. in Information Technology or Bachelor of Computer Technology (BCT) or Software Engineering or Computer Engineering degree.

(7) GIS Specialists: Must have a BSc. in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing degree.

(8) Communication Skills: Must have a BSc. in Mass Communication and Media Studies degree.

(9) Meteorologists: Must have a BSc. in Meteorology degree.

3. The initial military training for Specialist Officers will take four months.

SENIOR VOICE SERVICES PLANNING ENGINEER

REF: TECHNICAL/IT _SVSPE_DECEMBER_2011
Reporting to the Senior VAS Planning Manager; the holder of the position will be responsible for
evaluation of new and existing hardware, planning & design for new solutions, implementation and
integration of new hardware/software, project management, optimization of existing systems and internal
process improvement.

Key Responsibilities
• Create key performance indicators for new products/services;
• Play a lead role in marketing proposals, product & services vendor evaluation process; weighted
evaluation for new hardware, features and services;
• Design messaging network, improve & update network diagram when new elements are added;
analyze VAS systems network against KPI;
• Minimize network and service impact for any change and schedule all the planned work;
• Plan for software and/or hardware upgrades to cater for network growth ;
• Create and update handover system configuration documentation after software/hardware
upgrade;
• Configure data for new systems with vendor engineer and create/adopt necessary work
instruction for existing systems;
• Perform S.W.O.T Analysis of projects and play a lead role in internal training and transference of
skills and knowledge to Engineers and Technicians;

existing services and create a tool/find out method to get statistical data from the system;
• Liaise with O&M to implement recommendations to improve system performance and success
rate;
• Analyze the effect of a new/improvement change before & after project implementation;
• Development and management of Project Plans, activities and project staff;
• Build internal and external relationships with key customers and suppliers to deliver continuous
quality solutions to business.

Minimum Requirements
• Degree in either Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering or IT (Computing) – Operating
systems, databases, system development, LAN design and configuration, TCP/IP;
• 3-4 years experience in telecommunication environment with VAS (voice and data) equipments 1
year experience as lead engineer on telecommunications related projects;
• Experience of GSM Intelligent Networks will be an added advantage.
• Experience with NGN networks for voice will be an added advantage.
• Experience with 3GPP protocols is essential.
