KENGEN CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR ENGINEERS 2012

Kenya Electricity Generating Company Limited (KenGen) is the leading power producer generating about 80 per cent of power consumed in Kenya. In order to strengthen our operations and market leadership, KenGen invites dynamic and innovative team players to submit their applications for the following positions based at various Geothermal Locations and Stima Plaza.

A. ENGINEERS.

1. Mechanical Engineer (Mechanical) – 5 Posts (Ref/HR/OP/02/12)
The Job:
Reporting to Chief Engineer, the ideal candidate will be responsible for efficient and optimal running of mechanical plant and equipment.

The Person:

Suitable candidate should have:
 Bachelor of Science (Mechanical Engineering)
 Ms Office proficiency and Auto CAD.
 Must be a registered graduate engineer
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills
 At least 5 years experience in factory processes, power generation, and operations with a bias in steam turbines, diesel generators and water systems.
 Project Management will be an added advantage.
 Good supervisory Skills, ability to deliver on targets is essential.

2. Electrical Engineer- 2 posts (Ref/HR/OP/03/12)
The Job:
Reporting to Chief Engineer, the ideal candidate will be responsible for installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs of electrical equipment, switchgear and control equipment.

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have a minimum of:
 Bachelor of Science (Electrical),Light and Heavy current options
 Ms Office proficiency and Auto CAD.
 Registered Graduate Engineer
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

 At least 5 years experience in operation and Maintenance of power Generating equipment including, Generators, switchgear and control systems.
 Project Management will be an added advantage.
 Good supervisory Skills, ability to deliver on targets is essential.

3. Civil Engineer – 1 post (Ref/HR/OP/04/12)
The Job:
Reporting to Operations Manager, duties and responsibilities include undertaking all the civil engineering works for the power station.

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have a minimum of:
 Bachelor of Science (Civil Engineering)
 Ms Office proficiency and Auto CAD.
 Registered Graduate Engineer
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills
 At least 3 years experience in design, construction and maintenance of Buildings, roads and other civil structures.
 Project Management will be an added advantage.
 Good supervisory Skills, ability to deliver on targets is essential.

4. Engineer (Instrumentation & Control) - 1post (Ref/HR/OP/05/12)
The Job:
Reporting to the Chief Engineer - Technical Services, the job holder is expected to develop,test,calibrate, operate install, repair, inspects and maintain electrical, electronic,mechanical,electromechanical,electro-hydraulic, electro pneumatic measuring, metering, control and recording instrumentations. He/she handles communication and telemetry systems, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, programmable logic controllers, and distributed control systems.

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have a minimum of:
 Bachelor of Science (Electrical Engineering) light current option.
 Ms Office proficiency and Auto CAD.
 Registered Graduate Engineer
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills
 At least 5 years experience in maintenance, calibration and trouble shooting of measuring, indicative instruments and process controllers.
 Project Management will be an added advantage.
 Good supervisory Skills, ability to deliver on targets is essential.


5. Shift Engineer – 1 post (Ref/HR/OP/06/12)
The Job:
Reporting to Chief Engineer, the job holder is responsible for ensuring proper operation of generation equipment and its auxiliaries and supervision of staff.

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have:
 Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering
 Ms Office proficiency and Auto CAD.
 Registered Graduate Engineer
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills
 At least 3 year experience/exposure after graduation from university.
 Project Management will be an added advantage.
 Good supervisory Skills, ability to deliver on targets is essential.

B. GRADUATE ENGINEERS
 

Reporting to a Senior Engineer within areas of apprentice deployment, Graduate Engineer Trainee will undergo an 18 month on the job apprenticeship before being deployed to respective business units.

6. Graduate Mechanical Engineer – 5 Posts (Ref/HR/OP/07/12)

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have:
 Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Mechatronic or Production Engineering
 Ms Office proficiency and Auto CAD.
 Registered Graduate Engineer
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills
 At least 1 year experience/exposure after graduation from university.
 Project Management will be an added advantage.
 Good supervisory Skills, ability to deliver on targets is essential.


7. Graduate Electrical Engineer- 2 posts (Ref/HR/OP/ 08/12)

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have:
 Bachelor of Science -Electrical Engineering- Heavy and light option
 Ms Office proficiency and Auto CAD.
 Registered Graduate Engineer
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills
 At least 1 year experience/exposure on Power Generation Machinery maintenance and operation
 Project Management will be an added advantage.
 Good supervisory Skills, ability to deliver on targets is essential.

8. Graduate Civil Engineer – 1 post (Ref/HR/OP/09/12)

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have:
 Bachelor of Degree in Civil Engineering.
 Ms Office proficiency and Auto CAD.
 Registered Graduate Engineer
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills
 At least 1 year experience/exposure undertaking civil works.
 Project Management will be an added advantage.
 Good supervisory Skills, ability to deliver on targets is essential.

9. Graduate Engineer (Instrumentation & Control) - 1post (Ref/HR/OP/10/12)

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have:
 Bachelor of Science (Electrical Engineering - Light current option
 Ms Office proficiency and Auto CAD.
 Registered Graduate Engineer
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills
 At least 1 year experience/exposure on calibration and instrumentation.
 Project Management will be an added advantage.
 Good supervisory Skills, ability to deliver on targets is essential.

C. TECHNICIANS.

10. Mechanical Technician (9 Posts) (Ref/HR/OP/11/12)
The Job:
Reporting to the Mechanical Engineer, duties and responsibilities include maintenance of heavy equipments, mobile plants and water supply system.

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have
 “O”Level
 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, (plant option) from National Universities/University Colleges or KNEC
 Ms Office proficiency
 Good Leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and analytical skills.
 At least 3 years experience in maintenance of heavy plant and equipment.

11. Electrical Technician – 3 Posts (Ref/HR/OP/12/12)
The Job:
Reporting to the Electrical Engineer, the jobholder applies electrical theory and knowledge to design, construct, test, modify and sustain through appropriate maintenance all electrical equipments and mobile plants to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness.

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have
 ‘O’ level Certificate
 Diploma in Electrical Engineering from National Universities/University Colleges or KNEC
 Ms Office proficiency
 Good Leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and analytical skills.
 At least 3 years experience in similar function

12. Technician (Instrumentation & Control)– 4 posts (Ref/HR/OP/13/12)
The Job:
Reporting to The Technical Services Engineer, ideal candidate should be able to carry out repairs and maintenance on plant control and monitoring equipment. The equipment, electronic and electro mechanical construction such as techno graphs,

speedometers gauges, sensors. This also includes calibration and trouble shooting of these equipment and systems.
The Person:
Suitable candidate should have
 “O”level
 Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Instrumentation& Control)- from National Universities/University Colleges or KNEC
 Ms Office proficiency
 Good Leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and analytical skills.
 At least 3 years experience in similar function

13. Power Systems Control Technician – 11 posts (Ref/HR/OP/14/12)
The Job:
Reporting to Chief Engineer duties and responsibilities of the jobholder include controlling generating machines and interpretation of dispatch instructions.

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have
 “O” Level.
 Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering )- from National Universities/University Colleges or KNEC
 Ms Office proficiency
 Good Leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and analytical skills.
 At least 3 years experience in control of Generating plants.

14. Civil Technician - 3 posts (Ref/HR/OP/15/12)

The Job:
Reporting to Civil Engineer, duties and responsibilities of the job holder includes providing all the civil engineering works in the power station.

The Person:

Suitable candidate should have:
 “O” Level.
 Diploma in Civil Engineering from National Universities/University Colleges or KNEC.
 Ms Office proficiency

 Good Leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and analytical skills.
 At least 3 year experience in similar function

D. CRAFTSMAN

15. Craftsman – (Mechanical) - 19 posts (Ref/HR/OP/ 16/12)
Duties and responsibilities include maintenance and repair of all mechanical plant and equipment in a power generation plant.

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have
 ‘O’ level Certificate
 Craft Certificate (Mechanical) from DIT or KNEC
 Ms Office proficiency
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills
 At least 1 year experience in similar function

16. Craftsman – (Electrical) – 3 posts (Ref/HR/OP/18/12)
Duties and responsibilities include maintenance of all electrical plant and equipment in a power generation plant.

The Person:
Suitable candidate should have
 ‘O’ level Certificate
 Craft Certificate (Electrical) from DIT, or KNEC
 Ms Office proficiency
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills
 At least 1 year experience in similar function

17. Craftsman – (Instrumentation & Control) 3 posts (Ref/HR/OP/19/12

Duties and responsibilities include carrying out maintenance work, repair & calibration of machine/ plant instruments & gauges in a power generation plant.
The Person:
Suitable candidate should have
 ‘O’ level Certificate
 Craft Certificate (Electrical) from DIT or KNEC

 Ms Office proficiency
 Good Leadership, interpersonal and analytical skills
 At least 1 year experience in similar function
